Books
Wordless picture books spark imagination and language skills by using rich illustrations that invite children to create and explore stories in their own words.
A quick internet search came up with the books noted below.
I haven’t read all of them yet but I’m making a good start on those that are new to me! How exciting! I personally love
Journey by Aaron Becker, a door drawn on a wall is the beginning of some beautifully
illustrated adventures and of course The Snowman is a well known favourite. Chalk by Bill
Thomson, simply entitled, is about some children who go to a park on a rainy day. The
realistic pictures depict them finding some chalks which they use on the ground. Another
story where their pictures come to life and the adventure begins! A little scary maybe, but
imaginative! Flotsam by David Wiesner is again exquisitely illustrated. A boy finds an old
camera whilst he is on a beach. The story unfolds as he has explores the marvels it
contains. For slightly older children possibly but still an abundance of fabulous pictures for
you to explore. I particularly like his hour-long wait for the film.
There is also this book, Spot, the Cat by Henry Cole. Spot escapes from his house and goes
on an adventure. You are invited to search for him, just like his family are doing! Beautifully
illustrated with pencil drawings, full of things to notice and talk about!
